Welcome to Troop 128

Building Leaders, Exploring the Outdoors, and Shaping the Future for 100+ Years

Since 1924, Scouting America’s Troop 128 has proudly served the youth of McLean, Virginia, fostering a love for the outdoors, leadership, and community service. Whether you're new to Scouting or a longtime member, our vibrant Scouting community continues to offer exciting opportunities for youth ages 11 and up, including our Boys’ Troop, Girls’ Troop, and Venturing Crew. Meetings and Events

  • Troop Meetings. Generally, we meet every Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Georgetown Pike from 7:00-8:15 PM. Scouts are expected to come in their Class As (Class Bs in the summer) and bring their Scoutbook.

    • New Scouts can and do join the Troop throughout the year; families interested in joining Troop 128 are encouraged to visit with us at a Troop meeting. Email Scoutmaster Tom Brooke (BT), Scoutmaster Bárbara Zamora-Appel (GT), or Crew Advisor Kristi West so we know to expect you, and make sure to introduce yourself as soon as you arrive. Future Scouts should come ready to jump right into whatever fun activity we have planned for that evening.  Adults can talk to adult leaders or other parents to get more information and insight into Scouting and our Troop.

  • Patrol Leaders’ Council. Troop 128 takes great pride in being Scout-led. The first Monday of each month from 6:30-7:00 PM is our Patrol Leaders’ Council, which allows Scout leadership to plan and prepare for upcoming meetings and outings.

  • Open Houses. Throughout the year, we hold special Open House events for families new to Scouting or those looking to cross over from a Cub Scout Pack. At the Open House events, parents can meet our Adult Leadership, as well as other parents, while the boys and girls participate in the Troop’s activities. Check our Facebook page for dates/times.

  • Courts of Honor. Courts of Honor are special ceremonies held four times a year to recognize the hard work and achievements of Troop 128 Scouts. During these events, Scouts are honored for earning merit badges, advancing in rank, and completing special awards. Attending a Court of Honor is a great way for families, friends, alumni, and prospective Scouts to witness the progress of our Scouts and show their support for the values of Scouting.

  • AOL Camping Requirement. We love hosting Cub Scout families looking to meet the Arrow of Light requirement for camping with a BSA Troop. Our New Scout Campout typically happens in the late Spring, but feel free to reach out to Scoutmaster Tom Brooke (BT) or Scoutmaster Bárbara Zamora-Appel (GT) for other campouts or details.
